“Studies in European Societies” (MA SES) - is a master program fully taught in English, run by the Faculty of Sociology of Saint-Petersburg State University in cooperation with Bielefeld University (Germany) and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Centre for German and European Studies.
MA SES is focused on the social, political, economic and cultural dimensions of the European societies being analysed from comparative perspective in the framework of social sciences.

FOCUS ON EUROPEAN SOCIETIES
Special focus on European societies which allows students to discover step by step the social, political, economic and cultural diversity of Europe.
Program that is constantly being improved within 10 years of its work and today combines sociological component with the economic, political and anthropological approaches.
IMPROVING ENGLISH, LEARNING RUSSIAN AND GERMAN
The opportunirty to improve the level of English proficiency, to learn Russian and German, including specific courses, and informal everyday communication with foreign students and teachers.
INTERNATIONAL TEAM OF TEACHERS
The international team of teachers from St. Petersburg state university, the University of Bielefeld (the leading University of Europe in the field of social Sciences) and other European universities.
MA SES IS RUN BY
St. Petersburg State University - the oldest higher education establishment in Russia, one of the two biggest universities of the country that is included in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking). SPSU is entitled to develop its own educational standards which provides for flexibility and diversity in the educational process.
The Center for German and European Studies - a research center that is a joint institute of St. Petersburg State University and Bielefeld University. The goals of the Center are to promote and conduct comparative interdisciplinary research projects with participation of social scientists from Russia, Germany and other European countries; to organize international scientific events; to support academic mobility and international educational programs.
Bielefeld University - a German university that is famous as the home of one of the biggest and most prominent faculties of sociology in Europe. It is known for combining research and teaching and focusing on interdisciplinary approaches.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) - a globally acting self-governing national agency of German institutions of higher education which supports international academic cooperation, primarily via promoting student, teacher and researcher exchange.
